Review: The Air He Breathes

The Air He Breathes The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I rarely read New Adult, and I rarely read contemporary romance. Not my genres.

I have been going back and forth on my review and rating for a few days, and I think I'm landing on 3 solid stars. I really wanted to give it 4 stars. I liked how the relationship slowly unfolded, and I like the realistic grief each of them seemed to feel. I haven't been through this, thank goodness, but it seemed like how a person should react. But you lost me with the twist ending. If this had been a story about grief and two people coming together while they are falling apart, that would have been enough. In fact, it might have been a 4-star read for me, cheesy feathers and all. But the parts with Tanner ruined the 4th star for me. We could have kept a simply lovely tear-jerker without that added layer, so I'm back to 3 stars and a handful of tissues because I got something in my eye at the end of the book. I think it was a white feather. Stop judging me!

Review: Wicked White (Wicked White #1)

Wicked White Wicked White by Michelle A. Valentine
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

In the interest of transparency, this is NOT my usual genre. I don't typically read contemporary romance or new adult. That being said, the book was ok. I think if you like these genres you would probably love this book.

Meet Ace. He's a rock star who walked away from it all when his mother died. He's hiding in podunk Ohio. Meet Iris. She's an aspiring broadway singer who comes home after her grandmother died (who raised her, like all good book grandmas) to get the trailer park she owned back on track. Ace (who can't figure out that maybe not going by the totally common first name of Ace isn't a good idea when you are on the lam) rents a trailer from her. He's hot and cold. He pushes her away like a huge ass, then gets all protective and stalkery. She's angsty and dumb, and they deserve each other.

It ends like you would expect any New Adult romance genre to end. Enjoy your soppy HEA, people.

Shadows (The Rephaim #1)

Shadows (The Rephaim, #1)Shadows by Paula Weston

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So, I went on a blind date with Rafa, and I really enjoyed myself. Hellions and all.

Gaby has lost her brother and most of her memories, and is trying to put her life back together in Australia. But you can't run from your past, as she quickly finds out. Too bad she can't remember anything about it.

Angels, demons, sexy guys, and fight scenes. I liked it. I especially liked Rafa. Jason was ok, don't get me wrong, but Rafa hit all of the right notes for me. What can I say, I like my relationships with a little sass. Now to track down book 2.
