Review: The Slave

The Slave The Slave by Kate Aaron
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Ah, where to start? This book was not for me. The writing was just ok, but I was not a fan of the MC. That's a deal breaker. If it could have been just about Kai, I might have been ok. The nicest thing about this book is that it was free.

You see, I really hated Tam. It ruined the entire story for me. I hate weak characters, and I hate whiners. The end. 1 1/2 stars and no book 2 in my immediate future.

Review: Highlander's Bride

Highlander's Bride Highlander's Bride by Lexy Timms
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Nothing remarkable here. The story winds around, not making a ton of sense, but the MCs hit it off sexually and get well acquainted VERY quickly. Barely any time travel and no explanations, but I'm not interested enough to continue the series to find out. Lame. Insta-love and lots of historical tropes in this one. 2 stars.

Review: Romeo Alpha, Book 1

Romeo Alpha, Book 1 Romeo Alpha, Book 1 by Darla Dunbar
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Imagine you are just told you had a long-lost relative who left you a mansion. Do you:
a) ask more questions and go see the house
b) tell yourself it's too much to deal with and wait until tomorrow to find out more

If you choose B, this book is for you. If you choose A, I have saved you 90 minutes of your life. Put this book down and move on. This heroine is too stupid to live. 1 star.

Review: Let It Snow

Let It Snow Let It Snow by Heidi Cullinan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

M/M love story set in cold Minnesota. Lots of stereotypes, and I found the main character to be pretty annoying with his whining and pity party, but hey, sexy lumberjacks in a cabin. The second star is because I am a marshmallow who loves a HEA. Shut up. 2.5 stars overall.

Review: Bear's Gold (Erotic Shifter Fairy Tales #1)

Bear's Gold (Erotic Shifter Fairy Tales, #1)Bear's Gold by Yvette Hines

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I've never read an erotic shifter romance. Very new genre for me. It was pretty ok.

Riley gets into a car accident while fleeing her creepy, terrible ex. She's rescued by Theo, who is a hot were-bear with two cute twin were-bear boys. And he lives in Den County (get it, Den?) with an entire community of were-bears.

It was fun, a little cheesy, and had my favorite kind of ending: HEA.

Review: Rise (Tempting Tales #2)

Rise Rise by Keira Andrews
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

M/M erotic version of Jack and the Beanstalk, in case you were wondering. That should tell you all you need to know to determine if this book is for you.

Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands #1)

Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands, #1)Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not bad. A bit of unrealistic insta-love in a short book, but decently kinky. I will probably read more in the series.

Red Handed (Benediction #2)

Red Handed (Benediction #2)Red Handed by Shelly Bell

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I guess I like my BDSM with a bit of suspense in the plot. The main character, Danielle, was not completely annoying. She had some self esteem issues because of her weight, but overall she wasn't dumb. Mostly. Because it was a suspense novel, so she had to make a few wrong moves.

But Cole. Ah, Cole. Me likey. Me likey a lot. I could picture him in all of his sexy, tough yet caring, protective glory. Good stuff. I'm giving it a 2 1/2 stars because it had a cheesy HEA ending that I tend to like but some silliness that caused me to roll my eyes. Not quite three star territory but I find myself wanting to read the others, too.

Emma: Part One (Outpost Nine #1)

Emma: Part One (Outpost Nine Book 1)Emma: Part One by Lolita Lopez

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Hmmm. I saw this was on someone else's list and it was highly rated. Romance plus zombies? Sounds good to me.

This book (really the first segment in a serial) is ok. Some sex, (2 boys--simply shocking *eye roll) but even with that added flavor it's very tame. I like Emma, mostly. I mean, I want to like her. She has been living all alone in her stockade surviving the zombies. Plus there are cyborgs, and I have never ventured down the cyborg / human romance path. But something was missing, and it kept it from getting to the "3 star good book" rating for me. I think it was because of the serialized format. We don't get enough insight into Emma, her life, really any of it.

Small taste of what could be good with lots of interesting pieces to it. Overall, underwhelmed. 2 stars, but since I am a masochist I will read the second installment.

Grey (Fifty Shades #4)

Grey (Fifty Shades, #4)Grey by E.L. James

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Well, I hated it less than the story from Anastasia's POV. I guess there's that.
